Georgia Chalvatzaki Awarded the Alfried Krupp Prize 2025

Computer scientist Prof. Dr. Georgia Chalvatzaki from TU Darmstadt has been awarded the Alfried Krupp Prize 2025. The prize, endowed with €1.1 million, is one of the most significant scientific awards in Germany and is awarded annually to young researchers holding their first professorship.

Since 2023, Georgia Chalvatzaki has been Professor for Interactive Robot Perception and Learning in the Department of Computer Science at Technische Universität Darmstadt. Her research focuses on robots that can learn in real time through interaction with their environment and with humans. This approach is pioneering for a human-centered robotics and paves the way for a new generation of robots: her work aims to develop robotics that place humans at the center, with potential applications in areas such as healthcare, logistics, and sustainable agriculture.

Since 2023, the awardee has led the PEARL Lab at TU Darmstadt. She has already received numerous grants and awards, including a 2024 ERC Starting Grant. That same year, she was named an ELLIS Scholar in the European Lab for Learning and Intelligent Systems programme, which brings together Europe’s leading researchers in the field of machine learning.
