Lecture by Berthold Beitz Fellow Prof. Dr. William Burke White: ‘T Why the Global Economy is Breaking (and How to Fix It)’

On 2 December at 6.30 pm, Prof. Dr William Burke-White, the third recipient of the Berthold Beitz Fellowship initiated by the Krupp Foundation and the American Academy in Berlin, will give a lecture at the Villa Hügel. Under the title ‘Why the Global Economy is Breaking (and How to Fix It)’, Burke-White will discuss the far-reaching changes in the international economic order and the consequences of increasing geopolitical tensions for global trade.  The lecture, which will be held in English, is free of charge. Registration is required.

William Burke-White’s lecture addresses a highly relevant topic at a time characterised by trade conflicts, sanctions and growing rivalries between the major economic powers. In doing so, he develops perspectives for a sustainable international economic order and outlines ways in which cross-border trade and economic interdependence can be maintained despite political tensions and without causing a global collapse.

As part of his fellowship, William Burke-White will be working on his project ‘Connectivity without Consensus: Recasting International Economic Law for a Fragmented World’, with the aim of developing new guidelines for international economic law that enable global economic interdependence, even in the absence of political consensus amongst states.
