10 school classes are heading to Berlin: the schools taking part in the “Berthold Beitz Student Trips to Berlin” programme have been confirmed

For the third time, the Krupp-Foundation, in collaboration with the City of Essen and the Jewish Museum Berlin, has launched the “Berthold Beitz Student Trips to Berlin” programme. For the 2026/2027 school year, 19 school classes from Essen in years 8 to 12 submitted engaging applications. The trips focus on German–Jewish understanding and give students the opportunity to learn more about German–Jewish history.

From among the applicants, the City of Essen selected ten classes by lot, including two grammar schools, three secondary modern schools, two comprehensive schools, two vocational colleges and one special needs school.  The funding provided by the Krupp-Foundation of up to €10,000 per class covers travel to and from Berlin, up to three nights’ accommodation with meals, as well as entrance fees and guided tours at selected museums and memorial sites.

The trip centres on workshops at the Jewish Museum Berlin. In addition, the classes will be provided with information material on optional memorial sites such as the Topography of Terror and places of historical education such as the German Historical Museum. Links to Essen’s own urban context are also established, with connections to the Old Synagogue and the House of Essen History.
