Krupp Foundation offering the 2026 Alfried Krupp Prize endowed with €1.1 million
The Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach Foundation is once again inviting applications for the Alfried Krupp Prize, which is granted for a period of five years. The award supports young scientists in the natural and engineering sciences, including medicine, with outstanding qualifications who hold a first professorship at a university in Germany. Candidates should not be older than 38 years. Since last year, the award has been endowed with €1.1 million and includes a payment of €150,000 to cover the indirect costs (overheads) of the prizewinner’s university. With this increase, the Foundation implemented a recommendation from the German Council of Science and Humanities aimed at relieving the financial burden on universities.
The Krupp Foundation has been awarding the Alfried Krupp Prize annually since 1986. It is one of the most highly endowed prizes for young scientists and has so far been awarded to 45 outstanding researchers. The award provides the prizewinners with freedom in research and teaching: over a period of five years, they can flexibly and independently create optimal working conditions and advance their scientific work. They can set up laboratories and workstations, attend symposia or specialist congresses and finance scientific staff.
Proposals for candidates can be submitted by individuals, universities and research institutions via the Foundation’s online application portal. Self-applications are excluded. The application deadline is Friday, 6 March, 2026.
